We are proud to announce
TCR has a new Chaplain!

Please welcome Fr. Matt Shireman to the TCR Board!

Hi, I am Fr. Matt Shireman, and I was ordained as a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis in 2018. I have effectively been the Pastor of St. Gregory the Great (North Branch) and Sacred Heart (Rush City) since July 2022. In the February 8th edition of The Catholic Spirit, my appointment from Archbishop Hebda as chaplain for TCR was made public. I joined the TCR Board in-person on February 20th, for my first Board meeting. Already I am impressed by the fact that everybody on the Board cares a lot about seeing TCR flourish!
You may know of me through my parents, Mark and Annette. They served on the TCR Board for many years. They first attended their Retrouvaille weekend when I was in 4th grade as their marriage was heading towards a divorce. I am sure that their experience was similar to many couples. Their relationship started to improve slowly in the months ahead. After their weekend, they also participated in the Post sessions and then joined the Wild West CORE group at St. George
in Long Lake.

One weekend a few years ago, I was able to shadow a priest chaplain on one of the Retrouvaille weekends. I witnessed how the priest celebrated Mass with the team of volunteers on Friday afternoon, gave some talks throughout the weekend, heard Confessions on Saturday evening, and said Mass for the whole group on Sunday.

As I get started in my role as chaplain, I do want to mention that TCR is used to having a retired priest as their chaplain. The fact that I am pastor of 2 parishes will limit my involvement. For example, I am hesitant to regularly (even annually) take a weekend off from the parishes to help out with one of the weekend experiences. Essentially though, my involvement on the Board will be to work with others in the Archdiocese to help spread the word of Retrouvaille so that as many people as possible can try this “lifeline” for their marriage.
Please join me in praying for Twin Cities Retrouvaille and in particular, everyone who is involved.

Would you like to become a Mentor Couple?

Two of our most important goals in Retrouvaille are helping hurting couples and developing our TCR community. Here is a chance to do both!

TCR is starting a Mentor Couple program similar to efforts in other successful communities.
What is a Mentor Couple?
Mentors are TCR couples who have been through a weekend and the Post sessions. They connect with new Friday night couples to provide a supportive link to TCR and its programs.

What are the qualifications?
If you have been in Retrouvaille for a year and want to help other couples, you qualify! Being good listeners and working well together as a couple are particularly helpful.

What will Mentor Couples actually do?
The Friday night couple you are helping will receive your contact information and a short bio. They will be expecting a text from you in the week following their weekend to set up a call. This is a chance for them to stay connected to another couple who has shared their weekend experience. As with all Retrouvaille, this is not therapy, but a listening ear and an open heart.

How do I find out more?
Contact Eric & Char Anderson at TCRFinance@tcr-mn.org.

Patron Saint of Retrouvaille - St. Joseph

O blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of thy chaste spouse, the virgin Mother of God, I choose thee this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor thee all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly beseech thee to receive me as thy client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. Amen

'I know by experience, ' says St. Teresa of Avila, 'that the glorious St. Joseph assists us generally in all necessities. I never asked him for anything which he did not obtain for me.
